After an exhausting but wonderful wedding weekend, I’m back! Was so busy pre-wedding I took a lot of blogging time off. Thankfully I could still post my fashion finds on Instagram and get in a quickie shopping trip to NYC. (have to keep the latest goodies “front and center” on A Few Goody Gumdrops) I’m finally settling back into my “normal” life although we just spent an eating weekend at the Cape. Remember I was eating ice the week of the wedding! So I was entitled to eat carbs and candy! (yum)

Now back to blogging about some of my favorite fall pieces that I just stepped out in (minus my cashmere pom-pom hat) at my daughter’s post-wedding brunch. This has been a favorite boot of mine for the past few years. What I love about Givenchy’s Shark-Tooth “pant-leg” ankle boots (they also make a knee size) are how great they look with pants or leggings tucked into the boots. So many times when pants are tucked into boots they rise and don’t work. These are the perfect pant-leg/leggings boot. Don’t get me wrong these “versatile” boots look great with skirts, dresses and jeans, too. The boots are made of smooth black calfskin (or black suede) and feature the signature polished silvertone shark tooth turn-lock. The boots are simple looking with tons of style. I’m so impressed with everything Givenchy. The collections from the last few seasons are edgy and chic. Years ago we wouldn’t even look at Givenchy. Now I’m always looking and I’d take one of everything. Loving the Givenchy Pandora Messenger Bag and the medium Obsedia top handle/shoulder bag! (Obsessing over the Fur Pandora, too! )

Getting back to the boots...the wedge heel is covered in leather and approximately 3.5″ with a concealed zipper on the side. Every fall season I invest in one great pair of boots that I can wear for season’s to come. A pair of leather ankle boots is a must-have staple in my book. How to dress for a chilly day! As we get ready for colder weather, I’ve put together some of my (get-ready-for) winter favorites. The collection of warm goodies features a Row ribbed cashmere sweater, Dsquared Jeans (distressed and so comfortable), Inverni’s soft cashmere pom-pom beanie, a Velextra Ipad Clutch (tech accessory) with a detachable shoulder strap (love their bags), warm furry boots from Australia Luxe and of course, an Audacious Lipstick from Nars. Personally, I think this look is super cool and I’m keeping my look simple with great accessories. Pricey? I’m an experienced seamstress and designer, and I put my skills to work by designing, testing and retesting until I got it right. I then patented my item as soon as I could. I spent some time disparaging some of the more hideous items in Gucci’s current collection, but all is not lost. If there’s one thing you can count on Gucci to get right, it’s shoes. They take classic silhouettes and amplify them with daring twists and bold hues. Here are some of my favorites:

Leather Buckle Ankle Boot

These gorgeous boots give off a steampunk vibe and remind me of 19^th century London. If Lady Gaga were an industrial revolution baroness, she would only wear these boots. Daring, yet still refined. I love the purple jacquard booties!

Leather Low-top Platform Sneaker

Speaking of London, who misses the Spice Girls? Now, there’s no need, because the platform is back! While I wasn’t a fan of other 90’s revival trends (I’m looking at you, overalls) I think the platform sneaker is the right mix of fun and boldness. The confidence to pull it off is not included.

If you’re sick of calf strain from sky-high heels, Gucci is full of answers. This low-heel pump has exquisite detailing in the heel and adds a pop of playful personality to your dreary winter days. I’m in the camp that believes leopard print looks better as an accent than a pattern that comprises an entire outfit. Dolce & Gabbana’s current line of leopard print handbags manage to create a range of emotions suitable for different moods

The newest bag to come down the pike is Ikea’s bright blue Frakta shopping bag for a whopping 99 cents! (comes in extra large for $4.36) The kicker here is Balenciaga’s Arena bright blue leather shopping tote for a whopping 2145 dollars. So when push comes to shove (actually that’s what’s fashionistas are doing to snatch the one made of polypropylene) which bag would you choose? Difficult decision but I think it’s actually very cool to carry Ikea’s version (different sizes) which has so many uses. When you’re tired of the tote no biggie as the investment has been next to nothing. However….nothing like carrying the real thing! 

Either tote pairs perfectly with Balmain’s bright blue blazer with the iconic buttons and lapels.The blazer is so pricey you may want to carry the Frakta.The 99 cent bag can be purchased from Ikea directly.The choice is up to you! Which bright blue tote would you choose? Paper versus Leather?

Summer may be just beginning, but we’re already yearning for crisper fall days that bring back luxe favorites like statement ankle boots and statement coats that last season after season. If you’re already beginning to assemble your fall wardrobe, here’s a trend you should be paying attention to: fur trims.

While the addition of a fur trim is nothing new to outerwear, this season brings fun and modern twists. Fur trims can, without proper attention, look a little less high-fashion and more like something from Great Aunt Mildred’s estate sale. So how do you toe the line between fashion forward and fashion flop?

Add a Unique Accent

Modern accents, like this splashy blue number from Prada, keep your outfits looking fresh. The gorgeous combination of wool and angora will make this robe-style jacket one of the season’s most coveted pieces.

Prada’s fur cuffed pieces are also coming in unique color combinations – we’re loving this tartan-inspired plaid juxtaposed against cuffed fox fur.

If your aesthetic trends more toward the timeless, consider this Jackie-O inspired jacket instead. It offers classic structure and color, but the fur-trim color updates the look to the 21st century. There’s always Prada’s fur trimmed scarf if you’re not eyeing a coat!

Though we may be in the beginning of the summer swelter, fall 2017’s runway looks have us dreaming of chicer, cooler days. Click the purple links to indulge! Of course, our very favorite is the fur trimmed coat with the leopard print!

Today I received my complementary pair of sporty Soak slides in a chocolate/blush combo. There are many colors to chose from, and I probably wouldn’t have chosen the blush as it’s a tad more peachy than I expected. They also come in traditional colors; red, navy and black.They’ve recently added sand, white, blush, olive, brown and metallics…giving you many options. The olive tone is rather drab, and it’s not at the top of my list. I love the metallic silver and gold slides!

The most important thing for my feet is the comfort. These passed the comfy vs.achy foot test. The slide features arch, toe, and heel support so you so you can wear them all day. I’ve had bunion surgery on one foot (the other is in need of the surgery), so I’m always looking for a comfortable shoe. These didn’t bother my bunion as the piece across the slide didn’t interfere with that. Very flattering on the foot. The little bubble design on the inner sole was a nice touch. (no pun intended) 

Although the bottoms are flat, they have just enough thickness to make them super comfortable. One thing that did bother me was the smell of the shoes made of PVC. I’m hoping over time that will disappear. I’m thrilled the sandals are made in the USA in Maine as I love buying American-made products. After looking at the website, I learned that Soaks are made of recyclable material that “classifies them as vegan.”

The slides are designed for the “woman on-the-go.” However, I would utilize them for the beach. It’s the perfect shoe to wear in the sand…whether it’s hot from the sun or wet from the tide. Soak slides have a cool vibe although I do not see them as an all around shoe. 

Overall I would say the slides are comfortable, easy to slip on and worth the reasonable price. I’m glad to own a pair and hoping they can work on the smell which could be a turnoff to buyers and customers. Ready to shop comfy slides? Click the purple link to indulge! As summer is now in full swing, we all have our favorite tricks where the beach is concerned. Just thinking about going to the beach makes me nauseous. If I had to pick between going to the beach or skiing in minus-ten-degree weather…I’d be hitting the slopes. (love winter….oversized sweaters and leggings) Back to the beach…one of my faves has always been to carry a humungous beach bag and one, of course, that I love and would carry regardless of my nonexistent beach body. I’ve always felt just the right size beach bag can hide a multitude of sins…butt, tummy, thighs, boobs and more! As you can see from exhibit one….I’m sitting at a table and (FINALLY) my beach bag is blocking my entire body. You clearly get what I’m talking about. Buying jeans is another torturous day!!

My beach bag says Rebel (as in Rebel Without a Cause) in sequins which does describe me to a point, but Rebels describes how I feel about having to wear a bathing suit to the beach. Honestly, I’d rather wear jeans, a classic tee, a Row cardi and golden goose sneakers if it were up to me. Well…it is but not sure I want to “stand out” even more and look like a total a** on the beach. My tricks are very simple: carry a huge beach bag, huge sunglasses to hide the wrinkles and a straw hat to hide your messy hair. (#messyhairdontcare…what a bunch of BS) I’m now wearing the narrow glasses that have made a 5 to 8-year return to the scene, but the big sunnies are for going to the beach…the more I can cover, the happier I am. This is the best….put the beach bag “behind” you when you’re walking on the beach and your butt is covered. 

While many bloggers are talking about what to wear to the beach, I’m sharing ways to deal with having to go. If you carry some great (oversized) accessories, the day doesn’t have to be a total disaster. There you have my instant beach style. Your Thoughts??? You could always lose your beach pass for the season.

Hippy chic

Flared pantsuits and flowing flowery dresses were de rigeur at this year’s Splendour in the Grass festival in Australia. And since it’s the 50^th anniversary of The Summer of Love, the hippy revival proves classic styles never go out of fashion.

But light flowing fabrics do keep you cool in the summer heat, so maybe the flower children were more practical than we presume. Just pop on a pair of round Lennon shades and a perky peaked hat for a final 60s flourish.

Skater Dresses

Skater dresses are a firm favorite for today’s fashionistas — the versatile ensemble comes in a strapped version suited to casual events or a long-sleeved option perfect for elegant evenings.

The evolution of this outfit began with Canadian Olympic Figure Skating Champion Barbara Ann Scott. Designers raised the hem of her 1948 outfit due to post-second world war fabric shortages. Double Denim

Hip-hop stalwarts Salt-N-Pepa were the queens of double denim in the 80s — their ripped stone wash jeans and jackets became a uniform for urban youth from New York to Newcastle.

90s neon

From The Fresh Prince of Bel Air to MC Hammer, neon lit up the 90s — and its bold shades are back for the style attack.

Kylie Jenner was spotted recently wearing a pair of thigh-high fuchsia boots with a baby doll dress. But if you prefer a more relaxed look, simply match some lycra leggings with a gridiron shirt and Adidas high-tops.

Kung-Fu funk

If you still spend hours in your bedroom perfecting Bruce lee’s ‘one-inch punch’ you’ll be glad to know Kung-Fu fashion is back with a bang.
